April Newsletter: NYCEPS, Medicaid Claims Data and More

NYC Emergency Patient Search Connected
The NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, in collaboration with Healthix, designed the NYC Emergency Patient Search
(NYCEPS) Portal to assist the public in city- and state-wide emergencies. After a mass casualty incident, a key concern is locating and assuring the safety of loved ones who may have been affected and cannot be easily reached or located. NYCEPS queries real-time patient data through Healthix, particularly information from encounters at acute care hospitals and nursing homes – all with the intention of facilitating family reunification. NYCEPS staff can help search for a missing person who may have been treated at a New York City hospital, thereby giving families one place to call to inquire about a family member. This potentially reduces the overwhelming number of phone calls to individual healthcare facilities which are already overburdened in times of crisis.

BREAKING NEWS:
Healthix Selected for Medicaid Claims

Data Integration Pilot

The availability of Medicaid claims data through the RHIO has been long anticipated. NYSDOH has selected Healthix and three other New York State RHIOs (Bronx RHIO, Hixny, and HealtheConnections) to participate in a pilot to integrate Medicaid claims data into the HIE
. This important source of data may include clinical data from claims coming from providers not currently contributing data to the SHIN-NY as well as pharmacy claims data, which represents filled prescriptions. Having this data available will support New York State’s Performing Provider Systems (PPSs), enabling them to meet their DSRIP goals of creating a more cost efficient and effective Medicaid program.
Healthix Now Certified with eHealth Exchange
The eHealth Exchange, a rapidly growing network of exchange partners who securely share clinical data across the U.S., using a standardized approach and leveraging a common legal and governance framework, has certified Healthix to share health information with other states and certified organizations. Healthix is evaluating which state HIEs have similar privacy policies as New York State, particularly consent policies, and will target those HIEs with similar policies as well as patients in common with Healthix.

Healthix Expands EHR Hub Models
Healthix has been working closely with several EHR vendors to develop a hosted exchange platform or hub. The model allows Healthix to connect to the EHR Hub (center) to exchange data with multiple practices and healthcare organizations. This efficient and cost-effective approach saves time and removes the need for individual practices to connect directly to Healthix.
