HEALTHIX DATA QUALITY IMPROVEMENT INITIATIVE
Healthix is working to standardize the data across a few key areas which is received from hospital participants – Lab Results, Diagnosis, Immunizations and Race & Ethnicity. This standardization will help improve the usability of data for all participating organizations. Healthix recently emailed a status report enlisting assistance from our hospital partners in reviewing and moving the project forward. Stay tuned for more data improvements.
“7.1 Obligation of Participants to Report Actual or Suspected Breaches: Participants shall notify Healthix in the event that a Participant becomes aware of any actual or suspected Breach involving Protected Health Information accessed via Healthix.”
REPORTING A BREACH TO THE OFFICE OF CIVIL RIGHTS (OCR) AND HEALTHIX REQUIREMENT FOR INVESTIGATION
Healthix regularly reviews the OCR Breach Portal for any breaches submitted by our Participants. This is done to assure our Participant’s compliance with the Healthix Privacy and Security Policy Section 7 (page 50) which sets forth minimum standards that shall be followed in the event of a breach. Please take the time to review critical information about your responsibility for breach notification. Questions? Contact Compliance@healthix.org
SELF-PAY DATA
Please note that all data contributing organizations of Healthix should NOT be sharing any information related to that which was paid for out of pocket by the patient. See excerpt from HIPAA below: If a service is paid for entirely out of pocket by an individual, a covered entity must agree to a request that such individual’s PHI relating solely to that service not be disclosed to a health plan for purposes of payment or health care operations, unless the disclosure is required by law. See 42 C.F.R. § 164.522(a)(1)(vi). (Health Plans are not viewed by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as providing treatment for purposes of HIPAA.)
CURES ACT USCDI (V1&V2) AND HEALTHIX
Coming soon... Healthix will upgrade its platform and will be able to represent data for all 19 of the USCDI v2 data classes and fully support 68 of the 70 data elements. While, Healthix has the capability to support the classes and data elements, it is paramount that participating organizations send all the data elements in their appropriate formats/coding standards to meet the Cures Act requirements.
Please contact the hospital sender directly to modify your notification preferences.
THE CMS RULE AND YOU
Healthix has received provider requests to cease CMS alerts. It is important to understand that Healthix does not generate these alerts, nor does it select which providers receive them. Healthix is executing these on behalf of our hospitals partners in compliance with The Interoperability and Patient Access final rule (CMS-9115-F). Providers involved in a patient’s care, whether a Healthix Participant or not, will receive these event notifications. The information can only be stopped at the direction of the sending hospital. The Interoperability and Patient Access final rule (CMS-9115-F) is a federal regulation designed to
provide seamless and secure access, exchange and use of e-health information.

HEALTHIX IS NOW DISPLAYING CARE PLAN DATA IN THE PORTAL UNDER THE PATIENT RECORD TAB.
This tab includes: Health Concerns, Goals, Interventions, etc. This data will also populate our outbound CCDs. If your organization is not already sharing care plan data with Healthix, consider the value it will add for other care team members across numerous facilities. Centralizing data allows patients with multiple providers to be in synch with one another and will minimize the duplication of effort and/or prescriptions. This will positively impact patients with chronic, complex conditions.
